Saturday morning coyote.
Got to the farm and setup at first light. Not much wind this morning and not too cold but lots of deep snow making the 500 yd walk in a little tough.....
Set the caller and decoy about 30 yds out front and to my left. I got back to the treeline (swamp behind me) and settled in....
Turned on my decoy and started playing a little dying rabbit sound on the caller while screaming out with my hand calls.... After about 5 minutes I notice something just inside the bush about 350 yds out that I didn't notice earlier. Upon closer inspection, it's a coyote looking my way.... I freeze as he is looking at the decoy which is right inline with me. I am sure he can hear my caller playing but he is not coming out into the field (snow too deep?).....
I slowly reach for my controller and I turn up the volume a bit but instead of coming out into the field, he stays inside the bush and starts moving. I catch a few glimpses of him as he moves through the bush. I loose sight of him and reposition in hopes he comes back out...
After a few more minutes, I spot him. He must have made it all around just inside the bush as he is now about 25 yds away trying to get out of the bush and into the field (it was a little funny and sad at the same time). As he tried to get over the snowdrift separating the bush from the field, he kept falling through. Kind of trying to walk but the snow not hard enough to support him, so he would fall and kind of crawl on his belly over the snow. :(
It was a 25 yds shot, he dropped and to my surprise, 6-7 seconds later, he gets up and tries to go back into the swamp. I had to shoot him again :ashamed:

Awesome! Snow sure is deep here. Coyotes definitely not moving as much as they have been. Congrats.

Congratulations. We ran the hounds again today and yes you sure are right about the deep snow.lol
We killed two today.
I have leg cramps now from the tough walking

Nice job. Fellas got 4 today running dogs. Gone from hardly any snow in January to piles of it in February. Constantly switching out tired dogs for fresh ones. 66 total so far.

Had the same issue on saturday with the deep snow and thighs on fire! definitely time for a pair of snowshoes.
