Bad Winter For Deer

We have had really bad weather down here in Pa. - very cold and a lot of snow in the latter part of February - since it is near the end of winter getting this combination makes it rough for the deer to find anything to eat - my yard is so full of deer crap it is hard to walk anywhere without stepping in it - the deer really clobbered my bushes - started eating everything especially the yews I have around the house - usually I trim my apples trees during the winter but this year because of the snow I couldn't do that - the deer enjoyed eating the tips of the branches I cut and left on the ground - hopefully things will start warming up so the snow melts - I have a big mountain behind my property and the deer come down at night looking for food - which is in short supply

We are lucky at least here in the most southern part of Ontario....Not that cold and not that much snow... We did get quite a bit last month but it did not stay deep long enough to do much harm... The last few days/week the weather has been good dropping snow levels significantly. Our deer this way should come through this winter really well.... Definitely looking forward to the possibility of extra tags this year...fingers crossed.

No - not that much - that's something - it sounds like this is near North Bay - I wonder if that place got snow like that -

I live in North Bay and yes we get snow like that Joe.

Funny thing is deep snow isn't always a kiss of death for the deer in the North. Sometimes they stay up top and can get access to food they normally cant reach.

Winter is still a challenge for them overall.

Some mild temps coming next week so they'll get some relief from the cold and the wind at least.
