Last year, for the first time, I discovered a tick on me after turkey hunting. I got the appropriate antibiotic and took it immediately, which is the recommended anti-Lyme treatment. Later in the year had another!
Since we can't get permethrin up here, I did buy some 'Ant-B-Gone' and plan to spray my clothes with it in advance of the season, hoping the permethrin in it does the trick.
What is everyone else doing???
I use permethrin and it works (the horse spray stuff), but if your going to be Turkey hunting just get use to the fact that you going to find one or two on you, its just part of the game! Just do the usual check when your done and you should be fine. I always found a few on me before i started using permethrin, but now not so much.
Not sure why you can't find Permethrin. If you have any store like TSC (now peavy mart) that sells equine products get yourself some Ultra Shield EX spray. Spray your clothing down real good and let them dry well. The product remains effective for a long time even after several washings.Quote:

A week before my hunting season starts I take everything (camo suit, hat, boots, chair, fanny pack) outside, spray them all thoroughly, and leave out to air out for a few hours. I have a Thermocell unit which is good for blackflies and mosquitoes not sure if it works on things that crawl so I always carry a spray can of Deep Woods Off or Muskoil, just spray the ground around where you are sitting. As a side benefit(?) that stuff kills vegetation like it was Agent Orange. At least once or twice a year even after taking precautions like showering after a hunt and throwing your clothes in the dryer and cooking the critters I still end up having to dig one of those little guys out of my body( the joys of living on a farm with a dog) no big deal. They sell special keys to help remove them(ticks) and a dab of antibiotic cream wards off infection. Not all ticks carry the Lyme disease and if removed promptly should not be a problem. I would advise searching online about ticks and Lyme Disease (signs & symptoms) and/or reported cases in your area.
You can get permethrin up here but it is designed for animals. I bought this stuff at Ren's and spray it on my hunting clothes and let it dry, and I apply a second coat and let that dry and that is usually good until they get washed then I re-apply.Quote:

Shot my turkey gun today, found two on me when showering just getting ready to attach. Bought ultrashield ex horse spray from Peavy Mart. Supposed to have permethrin in it, will give it a try this year.

Ultra Shield has worked 100% for me as well, I just spray it on my clothing while it hangs outdoors to dry for a day.
