Geez GW, don't toss that old Coleman lantern out. What will you use to dry your socks and heat up the tent?
'Streamlight 44931 Siege Compact, Rugged 7.25" Hand Lantern 540 Lumen Uses 3D Cell Alkaline Batteries'
This was the title from Amazon. I bought mine from Cabalas a few years ago.
Have been super pleased with it. Is rugged. Streamlight is a great name. Problem free. Time tested.
I have the 3 D cell version. Very long battery life.
Different brightness settings even though I usually prefer on or off lanterns.
I keep it on all night long on the 10 lumen Red light setting when camping or at cabin. Light doesn't bother me when sleeping yet is enough to get around in dark to take a leak.
Regular white lights are just right to read or play cards.
Excellent size. Good handle to carry or hang.
Packs well in gear box, rugged enough that no worry to damage in transport or use.
Great feature is the lighted power button that changes color as battery weakens.
Do more research on it. Keep eye open for a sale and shop around. Highly recommend.
A hint if you are running things on D cells but don't use it for long times and want to be able to use rechargeables, maybe you have a solar AA charger. I use these with the minnow aerator that uses D cells and the one I have is for two AA and it will run all day. You can get the adapters that will fit 1, 2 or 3 AA batteries, like I said I use 2 AA in my "D battery" and it works. I bought the adapters as a stop gap but find that they work fine just not as long.

I have a coleman led lantern and it is great, battery life and brightness is great . One set of batteries lasts all week to light the cabin at deer camp. Mine is an older model and I see they have newer ones with even more leds so if mine is any comparison I expect the newer ones to be even better.

Hello, Big Tuna! I tried many other Powers LED lanterns and Colored Bulbs and ended up buying the lighting bulbs from the Dondo manufacturer at amazon. So usually, I use the lighting solutions from the Dondo brand. They have an excellent range of propositions with the diferent LED bulbs/Lanterns at amazon. I never had a problem with them during years of using them. If you are looking for a good Battery Power LED Latern, I recommend closely looking at their shop and propositions.
I have one of these and its great for use inside a tent, fishing hut and generally indoors as there are no fumes or chances of fires.
For outside, I use a Coleman NorthStar propane lantern. As far as brightness, the streamlight is not even close to that of the Coleman. Each has their use however, both are great.
