Trapping on Crown Lands

Hey everyone,

I am considering getting a license.

Since I am not quite sure if I would be able to commit to required quotas(or even be lucky to get a registered trapline). Based on my understanding, there is huge wait-list for traplines..
Don't have any private lands, hence my only option are crown lands and Resident Trapper license.

Resident: if you trap on private lands with written permission from the landowner or on Crown land identified in the licence that is not part of a Registered Trapline Area.

Do you know if it's even realistic to find some public lands that "is not part of a Registered Trapline Area" south of French river?
Also, from your experience what does "Crown land identified in the licence" actually mean? ie. province-wide? municipality-wide? etc...

I'm in eastern Ontario where there isn't much Crown land. Finding private land to trap on can be tricky but not impossible. In my first year I was able to sign up rights on 4 farms and that kept me busy all season. There is also land available through different counties that offer trapping rights and even through some conservation authorities. My local conservation authority wanted to charge me 50$ for two years to trap so I passed. I'm sure your local MNR office will be able to answer your question and maybe even let you know if there is any Crown land available to trap on.

Some sources take in Hastings County where there is a lot of Crown land in particular WMU 61,there is some in WMU 60.

This would generally be a registered trapline. Registered traplines are crown land and the trapper can trap private within the line with landowner permission. You may find some crown land that is not tied up in registered zones but not many.
