I might be able to get 2 inch rough cut cedar planks 6 and 8 inch wide for next to nothing. Would this be OK for a utility trailer? Now the trailer is very well reinforced as my buddy over built it, he has a 3500 pound axle on it but the trailer is made completely out of 2x2 tubing with supports every 16 inches (He like to over kill).
I might be able to get these gray boards for 5 bucks a board 10 ft long
Great price, I recently saw someone selling similar boards for $2.00 a foot. Those 8" ones would be great for garden boxes. They should last forever almost for a trailer bed.
Cedar is pretty soft. Won't rot but the way I use my trailer it would get chewed up. I put 2 x 6 oak on mine.
White cedar is especially soft. Red cedar is harder but still not "hard."
At that price though I'd buy them any ways and use them for something. Probably vegetable trudges.
Cedar splits easily and may not hold screws /bolts very well.
Used on trailer,with vibration,dynamic and static load off and on-they may crack and split pretty fast.
As others said-for the price-do not pass them up.

Probably the heaviest thing he would carry in it is a load of firewood, pallets, tires, maybe metal for welding etc. But the price of lumber these days. Long storey short on Sunday I stopped into this old mill place as I had seen piles of gray wood and you could tell they were not selling it. I stopped in and asked a guy about it and he just said it was garbage but it didn't look rotten to me seem pretty strong going to go back there soon and try and see what they want for it. I'm thinking 1 - 5 bucks a board. This is out in the middle of no place. I would estimate the wood has been setting there for 5 years at least.
I never thought of that. But my buddy doesn't actually want to bolt or screw the boards on as he hates putting holes through the metal so he was trying to come up with an idea but hasn't yet.
