Opening morning Jake
Opening morning sucked weather wise. Got to my spot at 5:20am and got set up. There was a light misty rain that eventually stopped just to make things uncomfortable. Waited for legal light and did some light calling with no replies. I usually hear a gobble in the area but it's dead quiet and I'm getting nervous. 10 mins later a crow sounds off and shock gobbles a couple of birds. So I call lightly and gobbles are roaring through the cold dead bush. After the last gobble the rain came down hard and that kept the turkeys silent. When the rain stopped around 6:30am I'm panning the bush to my left and when I looked to my right Mr. Jake came out to play silent. He made his way to my decoys, as soon as I line him up in my red dot a Tom come out of the bush line to shake off the rain and starts making his way to my decoys but is taking his time. So I had the decision to wait for the Tom that might come in or take the Jake that is in front of me. Well I took the Jake because you cant eat the spurs. After taking the Jake Mr. Tom came running in to laugh at his younger brother. Nice Jake 17 pounds 3.5ish beard maybe 4 if I pulled on it LOL and nubs for spurs. The rain shuts them up pretty good but doesn't mean they are gone.

Congrats on the bird, taking it with the crossbow makes it even better.

Awesome! Sometimes an early Jake is just what’s needed in response to some of that self-imposed pressure. These days we don’t need that.
