Personal Best
Got to my spot at the crack of dawn. I was actually 15 min later than I wanted to be. Didn't hear anything from the tiny woodlot I was hunting but the farm to the east had a very vocal gobbler sounding off. From previous scouting, I new a few birds always came to the wheat field I was on. I called sparingly, not sure if I could be heard from 500+ yds away. After an hour passed I could hear an occasion gobble and it definitely sounded like it was getting closer. I made a call, and when he answered on top of my call, I went silent. Ten minutes later, I could see him cautiously coming along the field edge. He would walk about 5 steps, stop, and either gobble or fan out. Eventually, he made it to the decoys. He ignored the Jake decoy and went straight to the laydown hen. When he stuck his neck out, boom. I knew he was big and the half mile walk out sure proved it! He had a 11.25" beard, 1.25" spur and weighed 27.56 lbs! My best by over 3.5 lbs!Attachment 41709
