Retail carnage

I took my fleet vehicle in for service this morning at our local CTC.
A couple of hours wait, store closed, lounge also closed so had no choice but to go for a walk.

I headed to a popular pedestrian shopping area up the street.
What I found was very depressing. At least 3 quarters of the stores have for lease signs in their front windows.
Micro breweries closed as well. The lockdowns have been devastating.
You may not be personally affected but thousands are for sure and will never recover.

If this is the Globalists idea of a "New Normal" they can stick it where the sun don't shine.

Unfortunately, restaurants, bars, clubs and brew houses suffered more than their fair share of the COVID lockdowns. The last shutdown caught lots of places by surprise - many read about the 3rd lockdown announcements shortly after placing orders with their food and beverage suppliers.

I definitely feel for them and we order take-out from local independent restaurants every Friday or Saturday to break it up for us and keep them going. I have a feeling that when things open the cost of dining out will be on the rise so they can recoup 2 years of losses.

Guy on CTVs 'Wine and Dine' the other night said he had just received $6K worth of food when the announcement was made. He's hoping his curbside sales will help mitigate the lose, but it may be the proverbial 'straw'.

How many COVID transmissions have occurred in restaurants that practice 30% capacity limits with tables spread apart (most of the times by over 15 ft), sanitization of tables, digital menus, and wearing of face masks when not eating or drinking?

My neighbor who is an assistant TDCanTrust manager tells me there was an e-mail circulated to him last week from corporate with business forecasts for the next 6 months that stated the chances of 75% of all small business re-opening when restrictions are lifted are exceedingly remote. Many clients have officially closed permanently and were in the process of liquidating to cover the most they can for open business loan accounts. It appears that banks will be left holding a lot of worthless paper.

Haven't seen proof anywhere that restaurants were a source of community transmissions.

No significant "events" that I have heard of either, the odd staff that caught it but that is more likely a large location like Walmart or Sobeys.

We decided to try and buy from smaller shops or local restaurants, in this Liberal exacerbated fubar mess the best you can do is try and shop or have delivered what you can. They were talking as many as 60% of shops and restaurants would not survive and I am betting that number will be higher. I have noticed that several of my favourites are no longer on the delivery pages and have been replaced by Taco bell or Burger King, I may have to do pickups or try new restaurants if the old ones are gone. There are ways to help the local shops/stores out but it takes an effort and you will likely pay a bit more than a pickup from Canadian Tire or Walmart.

It is not the restaurant, it is that people are using going out to dinner as a way to congregate. The problem is the people going to the restaurants to meet friends, using the restaurant to facilitate congregation amongst people who do not live in the same household, so they had to close everything.

Call them and order/pickup directly, those places take up to 30% off the top, the business does make a sale but makes very little off those sales.

I know, all are 25%+ in the past, I used to help some friends with their restaurant on misc things and Ubereats is the best and Skip the Dishes the worst. Ubereats let's you increases the price and takes a smaller percentage while Skip the Dishes used to (may not now) demanded the online and in store prices were the same and were 3% more thank UberEats (essentially you would loose money to sell on Skip). DoorDash was about the same as UberEats and let you increase the item price so selling online made sense and the % was the same but had some tech issues in Canada, should be good too by now. I still get some of the emails on business offers and buying offers and UberEats seems the best at trying to let the business keep more, Door Dash I haven't got updates for awhile and after a call with the owner/Skip the Dishes and myself I deleted the app, unsubscribed and recommended they not sign up with them, they didn't.

For those that don't or can't get out it is an alternative, the pickup is the best choice for the buyer and restaurant of course.
