Bugs Attack Bucks

Crazy.....feel bad for the animals

the bugs are actually insane this year..... i havent seen deer or horse flies ( just north of) Shelburne until this year. and if there were any there wasnt nearly as much as this, unless they just like me this year? idk.

Up north, they can bother moose and chase them onto the highway where they get hit.

I was attacked like that 2 weeks ago!

The usual warnings about moose on the highways was put out a while back. Flies are chasing them out of the bush.

I think the flies are unusually voracious this year due to the shortened breeding season for them. Everything dried up pretty quick, around these parts at least. The blackflies were wicked but without running water they were short lived.

Deer flies are out early and already on attack but those mosquitoes, I haven't seen it like this in years.

Took a walk into my new place on Saturday to start some brushing, I have to cross 500 feet of cedar swamp on the way in before the land begins to open up a bit. First time I've jogged in a long time.... when I made my way out of the thick stuff I was met by a bull moose standing in the middle of a field, in the breeze. Upon heading in a bit further I noticed things weren't getting any better, it didn't matter where I was, nothing would keep the little buggers away. 3 hours in and I called it, I had had enough. Can't imagine what it's like for the animals, I'd be laying in the lake with just my nose sticking out, I think.

The bugs while spring bear hunting last week were unbelievable! I pulled the trigger on the first bear that hit the bait just to get back home!! Lol

I pulled a couple more 'bug infestation' videos off the Trail Cam . What is interesting is to see the difference the temps make. Drop down to near zero and the bugs disappear.

The first one is in 18C temps at 4:00 pm...and the poor Buck is being bitten like crazy. Look at the insects inside his legs.

The 2nd video, same spot at 6:30 am with the temp at 3C...nary a bug in sight.

We need some sustained dry heat to kill them off.
