Great Whites door reno inspired me to add a couple things I've been up to. Maybe it will inspire a couple people.

It all started with an antique dresser my fiancé had me refinish and turn into a vanity for our powder room. Since then, she keeps coming up with idea's and "honey dos". A couple months ago, she found a bar height table she loved. Wanted to know if I could cut it down to standard table height. I told her to buy it. Had to cut 5 inches off the legs, sink hanging bolts, and then we painted. Turned out great. Since then, we bought some more antiques, that I either breathe new life into or turn into something else. Here's a couple recent ones.


Vintage stereo, gutted, core cut out, and remade into a liquor cabinet with new shelves and motion activated leds.

This antique sideboard was seriously damaged. Huge gouges, bubbled, peeling veneer. Stripped the veneer and cross banding, repaired gouges and deep divots as best I could and breathed new life into it.

Winter Jack. My go to.

I buy a boatload when it comes out in Nov. Usually sold out and done by Dec 1st. Winter months I warm it in brandy snifters/summer room temp or an ice cube.

Those 3 bottles are all that left and need to last to Nov. stuff is rarer than lumber this time of year.

Everything else is for guest :) (except the odd glass of crown).

“Sort of”?

I’m the type of person that can’t sit still. Always have to have something in the go. And enjoy learning/teaching myself new things. Photography was a hobby I taught myself that grew. This might too.

When my fiancé bought the table, wanted it remade, I thought “ok”. When she wanted it painted I though she was nuts. Can’t argue with results. That set off a chain reaction. Started researching stuff about wood working, refinishing etc. There is a cottage industry.

Right now, it’s something I’m doing to have fun with. I’ve sold a few peices that I bought to teach myself, improve skills to recoup my money in paints/materials. Basically keeping my cost flat.

Other pieces she that wears the pants has yet to decide if she actually wants them. So typically, buy it, refinish/refurb decide later, after it’s graced our house for a bit if she wants it or not. That said, a few of our friends are asking if I can redo some of their stuff.

The white side board, she thinks she wants. The charcoal “stereo” cabinet will likely get sold.
