finally diagnosed my ATV problem
so beginning of this year atv was running great, no issues what so ever, about a month or two ago i was going to take it out and it just had 0 power. no power to the dash lights, no electric start no lights no click from solenoid no nothing. i havent been able to rip it apart as my dads doing renovations in our washroom and the garage has been full of stuff to do with that.
well today we got the sink tops upstairs and it freed some space out of the garage.
so i went about looking into the atv, ive been thinking it was the solenoid this whole time, i know it wasnt the starter because i jumped the two terminals on the solenoid and the starter cranks the engine no problem. now i know absolutely nothing about electrical, it actually kinda scares me lol, none the less i went on a youtube rampage to try and figure out what the issue could be.
i checked all connections and fuses and nothing looked out of place. i actually unplugged almost every connection and re connected it and still nothing. (hoping it was just a loose connection somewhere but nope.)
then i thought about the ignition key, my ignition had 5 wires going into the back of it. took my screw driver and unscrewed the 4 screws to find a badly corroded ignition, was rusted and flaking, the 2 places the key would rest at, (ACC and ON) they both were so worn out that it was making 0 connection with eachother. took my screw driver again and started scraping off the rust and corrosion. screwed it back together and started to fiddle around with the key, i put the key in between the ACC and ON positions and VIOLA DASH LIGHTS ! just ordered a replacement !
thought id share this just in case anyone ever has this issue. was looking everywhere online and the main 2 reasons people said were my starter or my solenoid.
