"The consequences of government-enforced lockdowns killed more Canadians under the age of 65 than the COVID-19 virus itself, according to a report by Statistics Canada.
In a report titled Provisional death counts and excess mortality, the government agency reviewed the number of deaths between January 2020 to April 2021 and concluded that 5,535 Canadians under the age of 65 died because of “indirect consequences” due to the pandemic.
Over the same time period, 1380 Canadians in the same age group died because of COVID-19 itself."

Maybe they got my memo lol. I have been saying it a while now that almost 20 time's the deaths from opioids than covid 19 deaths under the age of 50.

My new stats this weekend suggest that more people are murdered every year than covid took under the age of 50.

Just over 600 homicides a year in Canada yet under that died in 18 months there was less than 600 covid deaths under the age of 50.


You have a higher chance of getting murdered in Canada than dying with covid. Under the age of 50.

Are those the ones that had 3 or more comorbitities,sent to the home where the average stay is 8 months and were doomed anyway or the ones that died with covid not from covid? We all know the average life expectancy is the same as the average age of a covid death and we all know the death rate hasn't increased except for those under 65 who died because of lockdowns. When those same demographics died of the flu it wasn't an issue. Why don't you tell your kids and your grandkids their future doesn't matter?

A study published Wednesday in the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ) found the risk of death from COVID-19 was 3.5 times higher than from influenza.

The numbers put a figure on the severity of the novel coronavirus, which experts have been speaking to since the pandemic began.

The study analyzed hospitalized cases of COVID and influenza between November 2019 and June 2020 in seven Toronto-area hospitals, finding that people admitted with COVID-19 were 1.5 times more likely to need intensive care, and stayed in hospitals 1.5 times longer than patients admitted with influenza.

The study used data extracted from hospital computer systems to describe details of patients’ hospitalizations, says Dr. Amol Verma of St. Michael’s Hospital and the University of Toronto.

That data included things like demographics, vital signs, laboratory test results, use of hospital resources like ventilators, and outcomes of their hospital stay — whether they died in hospital, needed intensive care, or were re-admitted.

The findings from the Canadian study were similar to results recently reported in France and the United States, the CMAJ says.

“We can now say definitively that COVID-19 is much more severe than seasonal influenza,” Verma said in a release.

The study described hospitalizations in Toronto and Mississauga, Ont. — areas with large populations and high levels of COVID-19 — and included all patients admitted to medical services or the intensive care units (ICU) for influenza or COVID-19.

There were 1,027 hospitalizations for COVID-19 in 972 patients — some re-admissions were included in the study — compared to 783 hospitalizations for influenza in 763 patients.

Those figures represent 23.5 per cent of all hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Ontario during the study period.

Most patients hospitalized with COVID-19 had few other illnesses, and 21 per cent were younger than 50 years of age. People younger than 50 also accounted for 24 per cent of admissions to the ICU, the study found.

While COVID-19 generally affects older adults more severely, Verma says the study highlights that the illness can also have serious impacts on younger people.

That is only a 20% increase over a normal flu season (a far cry from the sensational title of 3.5 times) . That should never overwhelm a properly run Hospital system. Even if they were running at 80% capacity they should be able to absorb that without calling in the Military to set up the MUST Hosptial.

It was the same as the ICUs...Ottawa has something like 80 ICU beds across the city....they were crying they were being overwhelmed when there were 10 Covid ICU patients...why is that ?

It couldn't have been all that bad, even the Emergency overflow beds set up in some cities were barely used. There was no 'overrunning' of the hospitals except in the GTA where they don't have enough medical centers for that density of people. Especially in areas where there is greater obesity (Diabetes) rates and poor health are the norms.
