What is a 'Road'

I can not find any detailed info on what is a Road.

so highways and maintained/paved roads are obvious.

Fire routes are also fairly obvious.

but how about logging roads ? Ive seen both active and some decommissioned logging roads. are they both considered a Road ?

ATV and game trails ?!

so the place I was hoping to hunt is at the end of a decommissioned logging road. I can not recall what the sign said, but closed to traffic, "Use at your own risk"

I see alot of shells and broken clays at the start of the road, I assume ppl target shoot there on this road, not sure if what they do is legal.

I usually take the road till the end, and then get on older ATV trails, with alot of dead fallen trees and reach my spot ... now is the Trail at that point still considered a road ?

You are good to go on the road you describe…..

The general rule is if it's not graded in the summer or plowed in the winter by a local municipality,we're good to go.

The Ontario Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act speaks about “right of ways” instead of roads. It’s important to read Subsections 17(1)(d) & (e) and 17(2) of the Act as well as Part XI (S.63+) of Regulation 665/98. Everything you want to know about firearms and right of ways are found there. A right of way could include an ATV or snowmobile trail.

Generally, if a road has been made impassable for all type of vehicular public travel (abandoned) and no maintenance occurs, then you can discharge to/across. It’s best to look at each situation individually to see how the law applies. Some roads are only maintained on a seasonal basis.

Even if you are legally permitted to discharge from/across an abandoned road, you are still subject to safety laws i.e. subsection 16(1) - careless use of a firearm. In the excitement of the moment, some guys forget to think about what’s behind, or just off to the sides of their target.

Like previously stated if it's not maintained you are good to go just be safe no animal is worth a horrible mistake.
