Colorado Conicals.
Some of the older fellas will remember back in the early days, full conicals we're a big part of bullet selection for MLs. Along with the market growth of in-lines the industry moved away from them and sabots took prominence.
In the late 90's Colorado changed their rules for the ML season and sabots were actually banned. So PR bullets in Canada (Cecil) decided to fill the gap in the market and he developed a 'Colorado Conical' with a Spitzer tip.
I used them in my in-line back in the early 2000's but soon switched to Keith Nose .45/50 sabots. Reminising later I wanted to go back to the full conical, but the supply of them went dry. Cecil stopped selling them around 2014-2016 and no one else had anything similar.
Serendipity; last week I was at a buddy's place and I saw 4 pks of the original Colorado Conicals in .390 gr sitting on his shelf. He said he was given them from an estate but didn't shot them, so he gifted them to me...what a great buddy !!
I took a pkg out to the 50 yd range yesterday aft with my Traditions Pursuit .50 cal (1:28).
Using 90 grs of Pyrodex 'P' (FFFg) , it took 5 shots to zero the scope then 5 shots resulted in a nice 4 leaf clover. Yes indeed they do shoot as well as I remember.
Anyway, I thought I'd share the adventure, these bullets are actually a rare find now and I'm thankful enough to have a few seasons worth of hunting with them again.
