Tree identification

Any know what tree this is have a lot of them here never seen them with seed pods ? like this before

I have hornbeam on the property, I'll go and check in the morning so see if they have the seed pods like that.

Yea that is the bark and leaves for a hornbeam. , I just don't ever remember seeing the seed pods like that, and they are quite outstanding, so you'd think I would have noticed somewhere along the line :)

MP is correct. Very hard. Harder than white oak or sugar maple. More heat BTUs per pound than pretty well anything else in Ontario.

I don’t ever remember seeing pods like that either trunk pics are tree right at my gate see it every time going in or out pods are at top of it
