Turkey hunters looking for good crown land not far from toronto

HI everybody,

I'm a first-time hunter (along with a buddy of mine). We're looking to hunt turkey this fall, but have realized (b/c we're noobs) that there aren't any chartered groups for fall hunting. So we're looking for either private land (understanding this is likely tough to find), or more realistically good crown land to hunt on.

Does anyone have any suggestions for good Crown land to hunt turkey on in the upcoming season? We'll likely go the blind route and hoping to find a good tract where we can hunt that is anywhere up to 2 hours from Toronto.

Please don't get discouraged if you don't get a response. As any good public turkey hunting spot will already have a hunter on it. Its a hard won spot so unlikely given up.
Like most things its a hard learning curve and only achieved by putting in the time checking out various places until you put it all together.

Finding spot for fall turkey is even harder, as only certain units have a fall season.

We had that big wind storm last week - drive some farm roads, if you see some trees down go offer to help clear some downed trees, branches, etc and see if you can get acquaited with some farmers to let you hunt their land... I did that the day after the wind storm and locked up 2 awesome farms, all it took me was 4 hours work with the Stihl and cutting and clearing a few maple trees :)

Keep in mind you only have 12 days in Oct for shotgun but the whole month for archery, so your best chances might be grabbing a crossbow on a deer hunt and shooting a turkey or deer. It shouldn't be hard to find crown land on the Crown Land Use atlas in your area. Your chances for deer would be much better anyways. It's only a "Turkey shoot" if you're on one of the few properties that have zero pressure and has a bunch of them.

You are not limited to only crown land, there are plenty of public tracts where hunting is permitted.

Alternatively, you can try browse the county website for list of huntable tracts

.....and do not forget there is bow season going on as well

jump on google and start looking around online. there are a ton of options within a 2 hour radius of the GTA.
just about every bush that holds deer in southern ontario has some gobblers as well. i was in the blind this morning and a gobbler was right above the blind yelling his fool head off...
