In my life time I have never seen so many help wanted signs as I am seeing these days - it seems business can't find people to work for them - I am not sure what is happening but I guess so many people are getting along without working so few people want jobs - I drove into the city this morning and must have seen a dozen signs seeking workers - interesting times to say the lease - there were times when jobs were hard to come by but now it is just the opposite
Do those jobs pay a wage that provides the American dream.
People used to go to work because they could buy a house and raise a family.
I think too many people are still collecting money from the government making them not wanting to work.
$500 a week to stay home, not a bad gig.
Yup, millions of North Americans have grown up thinking that the best place to get money is to have your hand out to the government. Dangerous.Quote:

I think this is just another example of how capitalism isn’t working. Companies are too concerned with profits not paying decent living wages. Getting the most out of people for the least.

Yet the Government is still paying out taxpayers' money in emergency aid for people who can't find work due to the Pandemic. Yet businesses are operating on reduced hours and limited service because they have no staff.
I think the tap gets shut off this month...hopefully that will force people back into the work force.

Had this conversion with a young lad just a few weeks ago, He was complaining a new guy on the crew was getting paid more than him, even complained to HR. Turns out the 'new' guy came from another company with 2 yrs experience so he was able to get a secure a higher starting salary.
That is what Capitalism does, opens the door for those that are educated, have skills and work hard.

The issue is that corporations are working on a work around for all these low skilled labour issues. I was in Boston (pre-COVID) and saw a mock-up of a project for Amazon that uses bots to stock and pick orders (not humans). The stock shelves have rails on them and these bots can stock shelves and pick orders 24/7 AND there is no need for the wasted space of isles between the shelves so each warehouse can see an increase in capacity. They are also looking at automated delivery services (drone and/or vehicle).Quote:

Paying or offsetting someones wage so that it is a living wage seems backwards to me.

Businesses are in the business to make money. That’s reality. Help them do that and you will be treated very fairly. Stand around with your hand out and not so much
