WMU 42 Deer population

The hunt camp I go to is a friend's house on the French River in 42. We haven't had any deer activity on the cams in a couple years in his bush, some cow moose activity and plenty of bear action. What are some things that could be done in this type of country to improve that deer habitat or help make it more attractive to them.

Maybe more info is needed, I'll try and answer any questions I can on his land, we're fairly new just a handful of years into this, lots of small game between us, but no big game yet. We're trying to start our own hunt camp here and have new traditions for our growing families but we've gotten a little stumped, we have steered a but more into beer since it's there but still want to solve the whitetail problem

Well my camp is a bit north of you in 42. Deer population is quite low, but not 0. I get cam pics every year, but many more moose and bear. A few hard winters a number of years ago and the number of coyotes and wolves have taken their toll on the deer.

Tough area to improve habitat, at least where I am. Can't imagine the work it would take to put food plots in.

And since we can't shoot the coyotes and wolves, options are limited. I think the deer numbers are increasing over the past couple years, due to mild winters, but not sure they will every be very good.

I tend to focus on bear hunting and some good grouse numbers as well.

I tend to see more deer in the sturgeon falls to warren area. More farm fields up that way.

definitely agree

I don't know that you can do much to increase the population short of predator control, but what you can do is make a food plot to try to draw in the few deer that are in the area on a regular basis.

I don’t know your area.
Sometimes it’s easier for you to find a better hunting area then to try to get Deer to come to an area that they don’t naturally go to.
