Colorado wildlife officials have finally freed an elk that has had a tire wrapped around its neck for at least two years, Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) said in a press release.

The 4-year-old, 270-kilogram bull elk was spotted near Denver Saturday and tranquilized. Part of the antlers were cut off in the removal process. When adding up the weight of the tire, the antlers, and the approximately 4 kg of pine needles and other debris inside the tire, it's estimated the elk lost about 16 kilograms of weight.

Wow, glad they got it off, weird how an animal can get used to something so unusual. 2 years is a long time.

The elk must have gotten used to having it around its neck. Still though, it shouldn’t have happened in the first place. I’m glad it had a happy ending.

A spare tire is always good to have just in case you get a plat

Heck of a nice piece of bling for an Elk, he may have been a big hit with the cows...even brings his own rubber HaHa..

I would have thought that the Elk might have been able to get rid of the tire back when it would have shed it's antlers.
Maybe it was too tight around it's head for it to have done it on it's own.

Im thinking a battery sawzall might have been the go to if the elk was out cold.

That's what they did , but they removed the antlers instead of cutting thru the tire...makes better sense.
