Yes they will eat stems all through winter. No idea how they digest them sharp

my bush is half raspberry thick stuff. the deer bed in it and its impossible to get into undetected. hunt the edges, hang a stand and hope for the best.
The flowers are a big target in june. I remember when we'd do necropsies on road killed animals and you'd see a ten pound ball of nothing but raspberry flowers in the rumen. All species had the flowers eaten - common BlackBerry, black and red raspberry, and purple flowering raspberry. Same thing with virgin's bower flowers. Deer browse the primacane stem in the winter, esp. Common BlackBerry. The current years floricane stem usually doesn't get touched.
