Not very thick, taken two days ago, on the bigger Lake Chandos open water on north side of road, no evidence of huts or folks out.
Thanks for the info Gilroy, much appreciated.
I've been out and checked the ice now for 2 weeks where I live on Scugog
WHERE I CHECKED AND LIVE the ice is in decent shape
Still white caps here on Lake St Clair
Jan. 7th - about 3.5 " good quality solid black ice close to shore (30 feet from shore) on Crystal Lake. Can't comment on the ice conditions offshore though. Saw a portable clam hut on pigeon lake on the 6th. Can't comment on the ice at all but someone was out on it. Sturgeon Lake at Long Beach Jan. 8 - people all out skating on shovelled rinks within 80 yards of shore. No huts seen. Was -25C here the night of the 7th, so some ice would have been made for sure. I'm not advising anyone to venture out. Your safety is your responsibility. Not enough snow up here yet for the skidoos to run. The folks who bought trail passes and own resorts must not be too happy this year! Almost mid January and no snow to drive on.
I drilled a couple holes last night on Scugog in front of my place. we had 8-9" of good ice
that is where I checked not a full sample of the lake
Where I fished on rice I was on 8 solid black with 1-2 white on top
