Just got the latest issue of OOD, and saw the ice fishing listings.
Never been to fish the Beaverton area, and saw that there are 2 Hales - Floyd and Tim - offering hut rentals.
Haven’t fished Simcoe in a few years. Thinking of a perch trip, taking my son and grandson, but looking for recommendations on which of the 2 Hales that people on this site would recommend, and why.
Sorry I don't have any experience with either but can tell you that we have fished the VB area on a few occasions and from our experience find a sand bottom outside of a weed bed near the fairy to Georgian Island and jig Kens spoons.

Just pick anyone they would both be on some fish haven't used either but have seen some good and bad from all the operators around. During the week would have some better fishing.
If nothing is around use some flashy spoon to see if you can draw them in. Maybe the biggest slabgraber you can get or any larger Williams. They probably won't go after the Williams but it will bring them in for a better bait.
Good luck they should be heading out soon depending on if the wind did any damage the other day.

Been doing some more on-line research after huntmachine mentioned VB area, and found an outfitter there called Ice Fishing Outfitters (Mike Heyink). It would not be quite as long a drive from Niagara.
Anyone have any feedback about them?

Definitely your best bet for kids.

I've only fished out of Floyd Hales huts. A few reasons I liked Floyds, they are clean, have "vented" propane heaters and a 2 burner cook stove. The fishing can be great or slow. Always enjoy the ride in the Bombardiers to and from the huts.
