I would be looking for where the respective unit is manufactured, you should be able to bring it up on a internet search. As far as I know most of the Honda's are now made in China with the exception of the biggest unit 6,200 inverter which is made still in Japan. I would not overlook Subaru’s, they used to stock them at Princess Auto and they are made by Fuji industries, Japan.
Honda's are made in a number of countries. Unless you're in a mad rush, they are coming with a new EU3.2K with FI. Either one is good, just look for close dealership if you need any repairs, although neither of my Honda's has ever gone back in over 15 years.
You can’t go wrong with either. For me it would come down to price, local service shop if needed and availability.
I’ve heard some are very hard to get right now
I have a Yamaha EF2000 inverter. There is a very good Yamaha repair shop nearby (though I have never needed them, touch wood), as noted above, the main reason I chose it over a Honda. It has run the house during outages, at the hunt camp and a few tools/chargers at remote job sites. I don’t think you can go wrong with either.
Both are great choices, I have the yammy 2000, never let me down but wouldn't hesitate to buy Honda either.
I am Definitely leaning towards the Yamaha's now actually. I'm just deciding on the 2000, or the 2200. Price difference of only $250, and weight is only 10lbs more for the 2200. Also, has a larger fuel tank, with a little more than 2hrs longer run time. A slightly larger machine, but has extra handles on it, for lifting with two hands, or two people.
