Off Topic

Good Morning everyone!

The Admin/Mods have discussed how we can help support our Hunting/Fishing threads, the bulk of our traffic being in the Off Topic threads. We've implemented a 25-minimum post for members before they're able to participate in the Off Topic section. If you find yourselves blocked from this area, that would be the reason. We also wanted to remind our members that if anyone would like to remove Off Topic permanently from their personal Forum, we can certainly accommodate that request. Please send me a PM and it will be done in due course.

We realize that the past two+ years have gleaned a lot to talk about in the realm of Off Topic, but we are a Hunting, Fishing, and Outdoors Forum, first and foremost.

Can you accommodate removal of individual topics rather than the whole "Off topic", namely "Federal and Provincial Politics" and "Covid-19"? And if so, would the posts also not appear in my "New Posts" search?

Maybe the forum IT guys can take a look at the CGN forum, they use the same s/w and have it configured quite differently.

Access to the Off Topic forum is by separate permission.

The Off Topic threats/posts DO NOT show up on the 'Recent Posts' or 'Activity Stream' shortcuts. That way the Hunting/Fishing post don't get pushed off the page by the abundance of OFF Topic posts.

Postings on the Off Topic forum DO NOT add to your overall post count.

I think hiding the 'Off Topic' forum activity away from the main Forum would make give the forum a better image to the Guests who pop in to see what is going on.

It works for CGN quite well...and they have a very active Off-topic forum, but you have to look for it to play there.

Then why have an "Off Topic" thread at all.

Off-topic is a lot more than politics and Covid. Some things don't fit into the hunting or fishing categories, but still add value to the forum and are of interest to many on here. I think it's great that we now have the option to easily avoid the two topics that are causing the most bickering here. Since these two topics have been removed from my view, the forum has been much more enjoyable, albeit a lot quieter.

The only subsection to that does not seem to fit into offtopic is a video gallery. If this subsection was to move somewhere else then the whole Offtopic could be easily removed from the Activity Stream (or members could elect to add it their own feed by subscriptions to it)

I think I've found how to delete the entire subscription myself. Unfortunately,videos go with it. Some can be found on YouTube,so,all is not lost.
