Much appreciate if anyone here could perhaps offer insight based on direct experience using a combo of BH209 powder and 50 Cal Crushed Rib sabot (H15045BR) with Barnes Spitfire T-EZ 250gr bullets.
The intent is to try that sabot in TC Bone Collector (Triumph) rifle .....
Hi Sharps-i do not use any of these-quite happy with the TC 300 gr Shockwave bullets in super glide sabots and 3/7 - 100 gr pellets, in my 0.5 cal TC Omega.
100 yards ,no issues for hunting.I would be quite sure even in 150 shot,with some holdover.
Hovewer-You raised my curiosity.Did some search on the net.

One more thing-after re reading Your thread .
Not sure at all-but You may want to check the outside DIA of your bullet of choice - versus Harvester sabot recommendations .
You may(may not) achieve perfect seal ,if the sabot and the bullet will NOT make tight fit.
But-i can be wrong.
110gr (by volume) of BH209 behind TC 250gr Shockwave (.452 dia) perform quite well in my rifle. Actually shoots tighter than the group shown if I can do my job. Presently, I have it sighted 2in high with a 100m zero.
The blue sabot provided with the Barnes T-EZ 250gr (.451 dia) was very tight in the bore of my rifle. Hence, the thought of switching to Crushed Rib. I intend to try both the black and the red sabots. Haven't had an opportunity to check powder loads previously with this bullet - it is something I would like to address as well now that I have a couple boxes to experiment with .....

If I remember correctly, Dilly had very good results shooting Blackhorn 209 with 250 grains Barnes spitfire TMZ slugs. You may want to PM him for details.Quote:

And that is where I should have stuck to the adage "don't fix something that isn't broken!" :) Because I then moved to experiment with the harvester sabots. Shot 3rd groups each using the black and red sabots in front of 100gr and 110gr powder - neither performed well.
Moreover, reloads using HCR sabots became extremely hard to seat.
POIs circled red were from bullets wearing HCR sabots. :)

Eventually I reverted to the Barnes supplied blue sabot in front of 100gr powder that had shown promise. But I started getting POIs that resembled buckshot patterns! I suspect the plastic deposit from the Harvester sabots kaiboshed the bore.
That wasn't the case with blue sabots for 12 rounds downrange without a single swab. It was tight but the positive kind of tight seal.
Moreover, witness marks for 80/100/110gr charges remained consistent with every seated bullet using the blue sabot.

Anyway, I would need to go back another day with a properly scrubbed bore and simply stick to the Barnes supplied sabots. We shall see what happens .....
Thanks for taking the time and sharing your results. I've never had much luck with crushed ribbed sabots either in my smokeless ML.
I've played around with pyrodex pellets vs. 777 pellets, then loose pyrodex and loose 777, different brands of primers, and at least 4 different brands of bullets. In TC Omega and Encore , by far the best combo has always been a 250 grain TC Shockwave (yellow tip) and 100 grains of loose 777 with either a Remington or TC brand primer. The most critical thing for consistancy that I've found is to use a bore cleaner that removes plastic residue after about 20 shots. If you use stuff like hot soapy water and 777 bore cleaner you will not remove the plastic residue in the rifling. You would not believe the crap that comes out of the rifling! The 250 shockwave and 100 grains of loose 777 will consistantly shoot sub-MOA with both models of TC guns at 100 to 130 yds, off a bench. Guns have 4x12 Leupold scopes and Leupold rings on them. Swabbed with 777 cleaner and two patches after each shot.
I've always thought the TC Shockwaves were just Hornady SST's with the Thompson badge added to them. Funny thing is they don't shoot the same out of either the Omega or the Encore. Much wider grouping with the SST's (about 1.6 MOA). I even tried using the TC plastic sabots with the Hornady bullet and the roughly 1.6 to 1.8 MOA grouping is the same. The TC Shockwaves group the same sub-moa group if I use either TC or Hornady sabots.
