Mushrooms

So many on here including myself bait using corn, apples, molasses, oats etc. Does or has anyone baited with mushrooms? If so what were your results? What else do you use that is not main stream?

I used a Halloween " Pumpkin " till the new year .

Don’t know about mushrooms see enough growing under evergreens never touched. But think I will try some of sugar beet pellets I seen at peavy mart

Alfalfa pellets. Tried peanut butter but didn't have a cam set up. Take lid off and drill hole in center. Screw lid to stump and put the jar back on and cut the bottom off.

I tried Alfalfa pellets only rabbits ate it and peanut butter the raccoon ate it all.

I don't know about BAITING with mushrooms, but I know that when I lived at CFB Borden, the deer would dig through the carpet of red pine needles to get at the pine mushrooms. So they do like them, and they can catch the scent pretty well.

Watermelons ! Every time I try to grow them the deer come and eat them. I watched them roll out those round green globes onto the grass beside the garden like they were soccer stars and proceed to smash them with their hooves and then pig out !

I have never used mushrooms for bait, corn is cheaper, but I have found mushrooms in deer bellies. I did a small experiment a few years ago with corn, white oak seeds, and Chinese/American cross chestnut seeds (NOT horse chestnut as they have a toxin in them). The chestnuts went first, then the corn, followed by the Oak seeds.

used to have a pear and an apple tree in my back yard. deer would eat every pear before touching an apple

Chanterelle are out.
Squirrels pick mushrooms and hang them all over the place on branches for their winter feed.
