Game you can play with your pointer

Flipping through vids and came across this interesting piece which reminded me to get my paper work in. Easy enough to play yourself all you need at most is submit your request to release and a place to go.
For crown land all you need is MNR permission, county forest it comes from the county forester, Private well that of the owner.

I'm always a little skeptical or leery of these type of competitions, and how it all translates into practical hunting dogs. I found some of it artificial compared to realistic hunting situations. Its my experience that these types competitions can lead to breeding to win specific formats or to please the judges eye. In the Beagling world Brace, Beagle on Fox, and Show, competitions all produced a type that are impractical for hunting. I mean no disrespect to those who enjoy those pastimes, just coming at it from a hunters point of view.

Not into the competion aspects however it does provide a bench mark to aim for.
This game, minus the time element, does make for a good day in the field.

Not at all impressed with that video. Dogs not steady to flush, retrieves where the handler has to rip the bird out of the dog’s mouth, speed walking and waving guns all over the place…no thanks.

ya not to mention catching birds out of the air. Really though nothing you don't see on opening day at any public hunting areas. At least in competition you're penalized for breaching the rules.

I can’t say too much about that. I have one dog that is a bugger for taking out birds. I’m trying hard to get my younger dog steady to wing, shot and fall. It’s not easy.

If it was easy we all would have steady dogs.
Been trying to find an old utube vid that helped me with steading training.
Bird lauchers are good however expensive and timing can be an issue.
The vid had instructions on making 3 x 3 foot corral out of snow fence. Use them to plant birds. The fence kept the birds from running which leads to chasing which blows up any chance at steading. Also the physical barrier of the fence helps with the dog jumping the string. That and a long lead while your partner flushes the bird is what I've found worked well for me.
