I just want to pass on some info that I'm in the middle of at the moment. A few weeks ago my credit union sent out an advisory that their IT system may have been compromised. They sent each possible affected member a free 2 year subscription with one of the leading Credit Bureau firms here in Canada, so we can check and monitor our credit records.
Sure enough, after I went on last evening, I see some activity that took place last summer about a credit card that was cancelled and sent to collection. There was also a false phone number and address associated with this that was never mine, nor did I ever live at the phony address and further, it certainly was not my credit card! The credit rating I have is down as poor now, according to the report. I'll be getting in touch with them first thing Monday to see about having this info stricken from my file, but somehow, I think I'm in for a battle?
So a heads up to everyone, it might be a good idea to look into your personal credit records/score. I had no idea before yesterday!
