Looking good Sam!
I have a couple of questions, how long do those feeders last after you fill them (and what do you fill them with)? Also, do the bears ever mess with the feeders?
Quick answers: they will eat it all in a couple of days. I use a commercial feed, either deer chow or dairy ration.
Bears LOVE deer feed. It’s my experience that once a bear find a full feeder, he won’t leave it until he eats it all. I have pics of bears literally sleeping under the feeders. They can be hard on feeders too, they will bite them and will try to rip them off the tree.
Baiting deer can be unhealthy and even deadly for deer. I don’t bait very often as I can attract deer to the cameras using mineral blocks. For anyone contemplating using feed for deer, I suggest that you scatter it widely on the ground as opposes to offering it in bulk.
I've scattered feed thinly over the ground near a new stand location to see what would come through, I've read quite a bit about the affects of feeding corn to Northern dear after seeing the discussions on the forum, so I'm not keen on regularly feeding. Although once I've scattered 1 bag of feed the deer seem to start checking back regularly. The long term plan is to clear and plant small plots.
Thanks for your reply.
