Ahh ok, sounds like we are using the app for different purposes. I am not using the app to find public land, rather for land management/mapping my hunting spots. I believe the free version of the HuntStand app allows me to drop various types of pins on my hunt area, view satellite images, weather/wind, etc. While iHunter doesn't allow me to access the app at all without purchasing (7 day free trial is done). Does iHunter also allow for similar mapping of hunting areas for sightings, harvests and trail cams or is it primarily used for public vs private map overlays?
They are pretty much on par in terms of prices, available maps in vanilla paid version, ability to add waypoints/map drawings, offline maps, weather etc..
HuntStand seem to be geared more for hunt camps (multiple folks sharing hunting grounds).
You create a "hunting area" and attach your waypoints to it. Then you could share the area with your gang. It also has 'tasks' etc..
Where as Ihunter waypoints are just added to map without grouping by 'area'(although you can share waypoints there too, but one at a time, so it's just requires more to share the whole area..)
So it seems to be targeted towards public land hunters flying solo or small groups.
Where Ihunter shines is:
1.regulations/season info built-in to the app
2. Counties/townships boundaries
3. Counties huntable parks with details, rules etc
4. Ability to export waypoints to your gps device easily
5. Ability to add custom maps/overlays (if you are technically inclined and know data sources etc...)
You can expand the app to way more then vanilla version
6. It has a 'track me' feature that is handy when following a game trail in field
