Firewood Time

Cleaned the outside house Chimney, still have to do 1 pipe inside and the workshop chimney is cleaned now had to replace the bottom elbow.

Piling firewood right now I have a bout 15 face to move down to the house but that will last 3 years since I also use my heat pump as well. Need to pile about 2 face of wood in the work shop as well. Then pile the stuff in the backyard into the barn which is about another 15 face.

** Note to Bushmoose I have a shed by the house so the firewood pile can no longer fall over. :)

For the workshop I use scrap wood that friends drop off and that I pick up at the local mill the rest is usually Manitoba Maple and Poplar or softwoods, the good hardwood is for the house.

Hopefully finish most this week.

how many times do we move a piece before it get into woodstove !

Figure about 8 times when you think about it. Cut down, drag, pile logs, buck, split, pile, carry inside to pile, and finally burn that puppy. Some might have additional steps or skip a few depending on if using an outdoor furnace or buying loads of logs.

Lookin good! Nice shed setup along the carport. I'm a bit behind on firewood. We bought a sawmill last fall and that has created a bit of a conundrum where I spent the winter milling logs instead of splitting/stacking them. And all summer it's been cutting and bundling the slabwood off-cuts for my roadside firewood sales stand. So, although I have a couple bushcords prepared, i'll be cutting a couple more throughout the winter to get me thru. Hopefully less snow this winter

Let's see for me approx 11 times

1) Cut Tree
2) Block Tree
4) Load Truck / Trailer
5) Unload Truck / Trailer
6) Pile wood
7) Split Wood
8) Pile wood in storage
9) when needed load firewood in Trailer
10) Unload / Pile wood for house
11) When needed bring wood inside.

I'm way behind as well, this should have been done 2 months ago. Still have to fill the garage with wood to keep it heated. Kinda running out of time now.

Firewood heats you many times. And it’s great exercise.
Not to mention just satisfying swinging an axe

Actually most on here now, don't know the storey of piling the firewood along the carport, you are pretty much the only mentor left. I have learn greatly from your advice to pile wood. :moose:

Other than I am more busy then ever this year then usual. I have always enjoyed doing firewood. It's great exercise, I enjoy dropping the tree's (I'm good at it). It's good exercise piling, splitting etc. I'm splitting thinking of splitting the firewood out back by hand out of 15 face I think only 8 needs to be split and I won't rent a splitter for that amount; I would need at least 20 before renting.

I find it kinda refreshing after a day at the office.
