Depending on the firearm, for a shotgun you could take a 3 inch ABS pipe, cut about 1/3 out of it lengthwise, apply some foam and lay the shotgun in it. If you wanted support for the shoulder end, you could add a 22 degree elbow and another short piece lined with foam. A couple of velcro straps would keep it from falling out. How to mount it to the ATV, maybe some "U" bolts on the rack. For a rifle with scope and mag, it might need some "fine tuning".

(Custom stuff cost more than the mass produced)

Never mind the dust and mud all over the gun(unless that is OK by the user)
