Tree and Plant identification Field Guides

Ive been looking for a good field guide or manual for plant and tree identification I could use in the field while im hunting. I usually hunt in places that are remote enough that I dont have cell phone reception so I cant just google it.

I am hoping to find a book I can bring out in the field that makes it easy to identify certain trees and plants and I was wondering if anyone here had any recommendations before I just start buying random ones off Amazon or from Cabelas.

I mostly hunt in the Lanark Highlands/Calabogie/Madawaska Highalnds areas if that is any relevance.

Sorry if this was already posted or discussed, I did some searching for it but im still new to the forum and using the search function so I may just be bad at using it.

Alas-i think they are not printed anymore.You can buy then online as used.Check them out.

It would be helpful if you could find a “field guide - forest ecosystem classification” for the area your from (site region) I think it was published by MNR and Agriculture Canada.

I’m pretty sure that you can find an app for your phone.

If your hunter you should study vegetation your game animals feeds on, especially if your going to set up between their bedding area and their feed areas. I have a number of books on the trees:

Trees in Britain, Europe and North America - by Roger Philips - it was published by PAN its provides lots of pictures. However it's not something to pack into the woods with. I used it a while back to I.D. Japanese Maple which I came across at a local fair I attended.

The Ultimate Mushroom Book - by Peter Jordan & Steven Wheeler - published by Lorenz Book. again not something you would pack into the bush with, but deer do love mushrooms.

The Pocket Guide to Wild Flowers of North America- by Pamela Forey - published by Prospero Books - nice size to pack, but again I'd probably take plant samples back to the book.
