boat concealment

So I was kinda pondering the idea instead of using fast grass or cedar on my boat I would try a brown or grey tarp and try to blend in with the water. I have a war eagle 2372 so its a large boat and ducks seemed to flair pretty hard last year with a full blind, we primarily hunt open water. I was curious if anyone has tried this since it seems to be convincing in the winter as a water substitute and I was thinking it may blend in better than an obvious patch of grass or bush in the middle of the lake? I suppose it cant hurt to try, worse case I camo it up if its a bust. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Have you tried burlaps? Might be a little less messy than a tarp. I dont have a boat so I've never tried it but just a suggestion.

Ducks have to be seeing a reflection coming off something. I use a burlap cover that covers the interior of the boat and motor made from landscaping cloth along with camo netting over a PVC frame. It can be taken down quickly and folded up for trailering. Works for us.

I think you are on the right track; like war ships are painted a blue/gray colour or even a broken pattern on them to blend in with the oceans/water they are on the better you match your surroundings the better you won't be seen. Using either a tarp or burlap the problem will be them soaking up water and becoming very heavy not to mention they may change colour , as in darker. If water soaked, they will have to hang and dry or they will quickly rot.

One thing people often don't do is use enough top cover. We always put a strip of burlap over the opening of the blind between each guy. Helps eliminate the huge looking hole. The one thing with a tarp to remember is that it will act like a giant sail. Burlap is good because it has holes in it.

I have always like cedar blinds when i can use em. It's easy to come by and it lasts quite awhile.

Check out google, there are several methods of boat blind there. I built one on a John boat that folded down on each side when travelling, but folded up so about 2 feet of opening down the centre of the boat, just enough to pop up and shoot. Worked like a charm on Rondeau for lakers.

I hunt lake st clair so there is just about everything there. Late season has a pile of blue bills. I still shoot lots of birds was just thinking of changing it up. I used cedar last year, I usually use fast grass which I still have I just was curious if a tarp that is the same color as the water once it muddies up would work or if anyone tried it. I Have a blind, just looking for options on camo. Just about everything seems to work as long as you are still, just trying to yield more opportunity.
