Tips for auto feeders?

Snagged a 5gallon auto feeder at Canadian tire for 60 bucks. On clearance. Also 2 cartridges for my escent tinks for 3$! What a deal.

Never used one before but I'm thinking of setting it up on a rope over a tree instead of on a tree branch. I can set the times for it to go off and how long for it to dispense.

Anyone have any tips or ticks about auto feeders? I've read on other forums and websites that once the deer get use to it going off they'll actually come to it at the specific time or when they hear it going. But it seems a little hard to believe ?

Not sure. If anyone has anything to say about the topic please chime in!

I had to hang it with aircraft cable. Once the squirrels realized what was in that bucket they chewed the rope ......broken feeder caused by the trip to the ground.

I hung a clothesline pulley on a hook on the heaviest branch I could find then I found the feeder was easier to raise using the cable.

Freezing rain was a huge problem for my feeder. The little turntable that tossed the corn got frozen in position.

Thanks for the input!, I planning on using aircraft cable actually. Still have alot from a roll I bought couple years ago. I seen some guys actually make shift something to block some of the rain from hitting the turntables too. I'll be taking it down after the controlled hunt so hopefully it'll last until then. Did you do anything special with the timers or the length of dispensing?

I’d like to hear as well, I bought the same feeder, I usually just broadcast but there is one spot I can only make it every 3 weeks. There is some good info on the same feeder on YouTube.

Well I've managed to set up the times and duration I want. But .4 pounds twice a day I believe will run out in about a week or so. Going to put it out on Sunday when I go up and then go back to refill the next week im hoping.

Yeah I’m more interested in a spot to concentrate them for a quick picture so I can see what’s around. I’m thinking of maybe just a few seconds twice a day. I guess I’ll see how it goes!

The higher up you can hang is the better I think. Hanging it higher up gives it more of a wider radius for the corn to drop from what I've read/ seen. Also I'm hoping they'll get use to the noise. I tested the motor and how it spins. It seems very smooth for what it is so well see how it goes I guess lol. Keep me updated with yours as well!

Haven't had any luck with those in WMU 49. The bears just destroy them and pull them down no matter how they are suspended. Even aircraft cables have been no match for those hooligans.

Very interesting, I didnt hang mine to high, suspending around 40 pounds with some rope isn't to easy... I put mine up on Sunday, might be going back in 2 weeks to see how its going and pull some cam cards. Well see how it goes. There's no bears here in my area. But I am worried about the racoons....
