Ok, I'm not a moose hunter. I just read in OOD that a guy shot a bull moose with no antlers. He put a cow, tag on it by mistake that a hunting buddy had. they called the MNR to confuse to the mistake. They weren't charged but forced to give up moose and lose there points. I understand that license says COW, BULL or CALF, unlike deer that says antlerless. Wouldn't making moose tags the same as deer make more sense?

But there are still cow tags, the cow/calf and calf.
I'm not sure how you would determine the # of tags per WMU, but it was my understanding that misidentification is still an issue.
An antlered/antlerless tag system would help eliminate that.

I believe several years ago there was a case near Timmins where somebody shot what they though was a Bull moose that was still in velvet. When they went to gut it they realized it was a Cow moose. MNR got involved but not sure what the final outcome was?

I did not realize that when you had a cow tag, you could also use it on a calf. Really, I hadn't given a lot or any thought to that. That makes sense. Thank you for your clarification.
Agree 1000% that you need to identify your target before pulling a trigger or releasing an arrow. The problem is, I think it happens a lot in moose hunting where cows and calfs are misidentified.
I still think the antlerless tag would eliminate (at least help) that from happening.

I read that story the other day. He says that he put his friends tag on it… that’s a no-no. The tag holder has to attend the kill site and notch/affix the tag there - before the moose is moved.
