DIY snow geese
I'm interested in expanding my waterfowling to include snow geese, but not very interested in paid guided hunts. Would love to hear from any DIY snow goose hunters out there. Are there opportunities to hunt them on public crown land or water in Ontario? (Other than James Bay!)

Hello there,
Depending upon where you are located you may want to take a look in eastern Ontario since very few Snow Geese migrate through south western Ontario.
There are however other potential species that you could hunt to expand your waterfowling experience if you are interested in supporting such a season.

To clarify, I already hunt many types of birds all over Ontario. Travel is not a problem. I am always willing to knock on doors, but it's pretty clear that guiding outfits have locked in most private land in eastern Ontario. The question is whether there are any public land opportunities for snowgeese. St. Lawrence River maybe? Just looking for ideas from other DIY snowgeese hunters.

Hunted east side in the spring, most outfitters and locals have it pretty locked up I would say from what I experienced where I was,
I drive to Saskatchewan in the falls to hunt them when not moose hunting, don't have to go that far, but to get the true snow experience id say Ontario is a waste of time.
We run about 600 dekes in the fall and a e caller works just fine, Just have to pray for wind

SK is an interesting possibility. Thx.
