I was just watching a video on You Tube and found out that Pearson's fuel dump area for planes passes over Lake Simcoe.
Over the lake?
Yes I see safety as vital but when this happens usually these are on long finals so I don't see where some movement of the flight path can't be moved enough to avoid the lake.
But I suspect dumping over the lake is seen as a safer location for those on the ground.

Ground or lake either way it’s polluting but less people on the water than ground. In that situation I doubt they are thinking about anything else other than landing safely.
Jet fuel is refined at a touch above Kerosene and is highly corrosive. Agent Orange has nothing on that stuff. After a pilot dumps what remaining fuel he has left, most evaporates in air. Very little,if any,actually hits the ground........at least,so I'm told. Not only is Simcoe an ejection site,so is Lake Ontario only on a greater scale because of the various airports close to it around the Golden Horseshoe. If it was a really serious issue,it would have shown up a long time ago.
dumping fuel is a last option resort and not something they do unless absolutely needed. While obviously not ideal, it also doesn't happen much. At the cost of fuel, I'm sure its not a lightly made decision, but its the lesser of two evils if it comes down to it.
