Cashed in Father's Day Chits
So last weekend running my 8 inch auger with a 5 year old Dewalt 996 and 5 amp-hour batteries in concert with a clam adapter i could tell the drill was struggling. It did what i needed but just barely. I think the main reason is because there was close to 30 inches of drill depth needed and it was not all ice. There was 3 inches of ice with about 10 inches of slush below followed by 17 inches of ice. The composite layers and especially the slush were almost more than the drill could take. Drill in question was a 996 Dewalt 20V. Good workhorse and nothing wrong with it. So i passed it on to my son and procured this:

It is the 999 and about 1000 inch-lbs (Old drill is about 750ish inch-lbs) . Plus picked up a whack of battery to go with it. Should be all good now.
For the record - always been a DeWalt guy. And for what it's worth Duramax, RIGID (hand plumbing tools only), Ski-Doo, Stihl, Kubota and Forty Creek also get my vote. Used to be a Benchmade guy too but recently switched teams to North River.
