I would be cautiously optimistic at this time of year. Unless you know they hang around this spot all year it could be they are just wintering there and can move a considerable distance come spring. Speaking from experience here:) TC
They have been hunted in this area in previous years, not by me, so we will see in the Spring. I didn't see any last year.
I'm with Turkey Chaser on this one ! Much like deer they herd up for the winter and go looking for nesting areas in April. If you are seeing tracks/poop or dusting bowls then you might be on to something. I've had flocks of 40 plus birds winter over on one of my properties but come Spring ... Poof ! They vanish.
I'm with the you here, to early to get excited about seeing birds. Once to they break up and you see signs, say a month from now, then it time to get excited. I haven't seen a turkey since last fall in my area of hunting, but I know they will be there in April for sure. I don't know where they winter, but they will be back.
Ya nice to see but really only gets real sometime around the 24 of April.
recently moved to north Richmond hill. at least twice a week I have to stop for a turkey flock to pass stoufville road ...
Starting to think they just wanna make me look bad in front of the wife ... "so you drive 3 hours, and spend 2 days in the woods, and come home empty handed saying u couldnt find them ? " lol
I'm not a turkey hunter , but highly recommend this month's Out of Door magazine. Excellent article on how to hunt turkey. If I was younger..............
already read those articles, some good points and some really good safety tips as well.
