As we have so many rabbits, starlings and dark grey doves around us. How far from the residential area and public roads can we hunt? I am living around Kitchener/Waterloo area. Can we hunt around small towns where there are just fields. Do we still need permission for those fields too? Does anyone know any good place near Kitchener/Waterloo area for small game hunting like rabbits, starlings and other birds? Thank you.
Alot of your questions can be answered with a read through the regs. Private land needs permission. Discharge of firearms is often regulated through municipal bylaws. So will have to followup with them. For public land hunting might want to contact the Grand river Conservation authority.
You pretty much need permission to hunt anywhere in Southern Ontario. Check with local municipal offices for discharge by laws as well. You may live close to empty fields but you need to know who owns them and get permission and see if you can shoot in the area considering its close to residential. When it comes to hunting now adays, you need to do homework. I spend at least a week every summer talking to all the landowners I have permission to and seeing if I can still hunt the year there. Things change fast in the rural areas from year to year. Last thing you need is a trespassing charge.

Your comments were identical to mine... makes me wonder if the on-line versions are that much different than the in-person training. While I agree getting licenced needed to change I think it may have changed too much, making it too easy, and not stressing some of the important aspects. Perhaps it should include more emphasis on trespass, private property versus public, etc.Quote:

You have been on this forum since 2019 so plenty of time to gain knowledge from all the posts since then, but you also posted on your very first thread in May of 2020 the exact same question you are posting here and the members back then gave you some advice.
So in the past 3 years or so have you ever gotten out to hunt or are you still thinking about it? Did you take the hunters safety course? Did you take the Canadian Firearms Safety Course?
My impression is that you would kind of want to hunt but do not know exactly where to start and would need a mentor near you to sit and have a coffee with you and get you started on a hunting career.
