So recently diagnosed with diabetes went to the eye doctors the other day and got a diabetes eye test. Apparently the exam is not covered unless your on medication. What kind of a sick joke is that.

Anyway my eyes are good back to 20 20 and no damage. I would of convinced you otherwise on the closer as I was going blurry fast and needed to to use reading glasses for a week to see things close. Couldn't even read my work orders today its much better now .


Anyway my numbers were up in the 20s when I checked after showing some initial symptoms took a few weeks to get back into the normal range. Average is 5.6 for the week after 3 meals and some snacks per day.

Just thought I would make a little rant about our system.

No medication no benefits what a joke so if I choose to make a 100% diet change I'm stuck paying the bill. If I want the government to cover I need to take their prescription.
Anyway see if the work benefits cover it they should it is a test after all.

Ps the rants not about paying for it just the policy itself. Going back in may for another a1c test hopefully it's normal it was 12.5 and sugar level was 19 at my last test. . Good thing I love to cook made a keto shepherd's the other day so good and no spikes. Wife's been on and off the keto diet for so long it has put me in the right direction moving forward.

Take their medication and they will hook you up don't and your on your own. Nice thank you so much lol. Just proves what I already thought about the system.

I've been dealing with Type 2 for the last 15 years. My A1C floats around the 7.0 mark at any given time. I've also lost 50lbs. since I retired that's been a tremendous help. I allow my BSL to fluctuate between 6.9 and 9.6. My highest "spikes" can go to about 16 when I eat like an idiot. I'm using Jardiance daily and Ozempic once a week. You're right about it being a PITA. Watching what I eat and drink is quite the balancing act. It'll take you a while to get into the swing of things. Hint: Don't drink a lot of beer or garbage whisky that's distilled with a lot of sugar. Just drink the "good stuff".

I'm on that border line too but I have not had to pay for the annual exam. There is a much better in depth version of that test where the examiner can see just about everything you have ever seen, lol, I don't mind paying for that.

Lot's of stuff not covered by OHIP. My wife was tested for cancer once I think it was cervical, we had to pay for it ourselves. That was back around 2000. That cost me 1000.00 at the time.

It's so weird my wife had lump cut out of her back during the lockdowns. It wasn't covered unless it was cancerous we paid out of pocket as well.

First time to eye doctors in many many years. I had to get the diabetic test done it only made sense but what shocked me the most was when they said they only covered it if I was medicated.
I will be making yearly or by yearly visits unless it changes again.

Was getting scary for a little bit there and took almost a month to even get in.

A few OHIP items were delisted under the Liberals in Ontario eye exams was one also Physiotherapy was reduced but I don't know about the some cancer tests, can't remember if that was before or after the Liberals. I think it was never covered.

Also I am diabetic nobody told me I should get my eyes tested. I have been wearing Dollarama glasses for about 10 years now (2.5) they work fine but without them I cannot read at all. I keep thinking my eyes are getting worse at one time I could read a bit without them now all I see is a blurr.
