The end to our season
What a great season for us!!!
The action started right away on openning day with my son connecting on a public land tom later in the morning.

Then as seen in a previous post(Great day in the woods) we pulled out a double on the 3rd day out.

So I had my last tag left to fill, and had planned on doing some late season hunting after I returned from a trip out west.
Just to let you all know, I love late season turkeys, their not all pre-occupied with hens wanting to bread but still looking for love. That's what happened to us this morning, we were all set up in a spot that had been good in the past, due to not being able to scout the night before (pickeral fishing). Attachment 44548
As things started to come to life at dawn, we could hear a tom out about 100 yards from our set-up. After a while, we can tell that he has hit the ground and that he has a bit of competition from a second and then a third tom that are sounding off a little farther away. He closes the distance pretty fast knowing that there are other toms on the move in our direction. I first see him entering the field at about 45 yards out front and to my left, and the other toms have closed the distance by at least half, so he is in a hurry to get to us. He takes several steps into the field and then sees our decoys, the race is on, he closes the distance in record time and is out at 20 yards in the setup.
We are on our way back home by 6am with mister tom in the bed of the pickup. What a great ending to another wonderful season.Attachment 44549

Late season birds sure are fun, which makes the earlier wake up and bugs worthwhile. Great job on the season!
