Grand Daughter's Birthday.

My oldest grand daughter turns 6 the end of this month. She is an outdoorsy kid who loves to examine whatever fish and big game i bring home and loves to get involved in cleaning and dressing game. So this year gonna get rid of the cheesy $20 kids rod and kit her out proper. What good is money anyways if a grandfather can't spoil his grand kids.

Got her a nice Plano 1-tray tackle box and stuffed it full of stuff. Added a 42 inch Timber Mac Attack rod equipped with a Sedona 500 series reel. Actually an ice fishing rod but perfect for a 6 year old on soft water. Spooled it with 15 pound braid and made up a bunch of 30 inch fluorocarbon leaders:

Gonna get out with her on Nip and and a few back lakes this summer.

Don't ever throw out that first rod I still have the first fishing rod I ever used, my son has his as well.

Haha. First rod i ever used and up to i was about 12 were willow switches i would cut and outfitted with thread stolen from mom's sewing kit and equipped with hooks i made myself from safety pins also stolen from mom's sewing kit. Riding from from pond to pond on my banana seat hand me down bike. Those were the days - poor skinny immigrant kid knocking on farm doors for permission to fish their ponds. Virtually every farm wife that answered the door gave me the okay - wouldn't trade those days for anything.

Make sure Grandpappa ties the kid to the oar socket if you’re fishing Nipigon! The average laker will probably pull her overboard. We got a 32 pounder last time up. Lots in the 16 to 22lb range.

Nice setup. Jitterbug was my oldest daughter's go to lure when she was that age. Still is - she turned 30 last weekend.

Sounds like you definitely deserve a good Father's Day. :) Wonderful thing to do for your grand daughter. I have fond memories of my Dad getting me going into hunting.

Haha. When i said "Nip" i meant Nipissing not Nipigon - Nipigon is an epic lake, haven't been there since 95 but mean to return some day - maybe when she is a bit older and able to hold her own. That being said there is the odd monster northern and/or muskie in Nipissing that might give her a run for her money. But mostly we'd be chasing easy to catch panfish and bass but you never know - anything is possible. The more i fish Nipissing the more i love it.

This is awesome - what it is all about - passing it down to the next generation. Love those colours for jig heads too.

Those hard case tackle boxes are indestructible, she will have it for a long time.

Awesome....congrats and keep getting her things that will keep her outdoors.. my grandson turns 3 in August .. we spoil him with out doorsy presents every time we visit him in Burlington... I bought him a fishing rod and tackle box the day he was born ... hockey sticks... a tee ball set .. baseball glove .. a big wheel ...next is a set of golf clubs... all good old fashion stuff that will get him outdoors... We ve been up north for nearly 3 years now and they have visited just once... he wants to go in Opa's boat... hopefully soon !!
