Baitcasters: What exactly is the benefit?

Ok, here goes.

For the 2nd time in my life I bought a baitcaster with the intent to use it until I cant put it down for anything else. And for the 2nd time in my life Im wondering what the particular advantages are over a quality spinning setup?

I dont find myself at this point any more accurate. I dont find myself any faster. It requires fine tuning to each lure with the tension and brakes. Bird nests are a distinct possibility. I mean, it sounds cool when I cast it; but when im playing around dealing with its intricacies and my wife is catching fish on her spinning rod Im left wondering whats the point (besides sounding cool!)?

To the average joe angler, what are the advantages? Im not talking about pro anglers.

God (and everyone else) knows I'm no professional by any stretch,but,I love playing with my bait-casters once I get them set so they don't back lash every second cast,although,working out a birds nest is an art form on it's own. Like everything else, practice makes perfect. I like to use them for dropping jigs into weed bed holes and trolling for Muskie. I don't see any real advantage except they can be loaded with heavy test line for weed ripping where it's a little more difficult putting heavy line on spinning gear. I just think they're fun to play with.

Heavy spinning tackle is used on the ocean so you could use spinning for almost everything in freshwater.
Bait casters for Flipping, trolling as they have better drags in a smaller size reel.

Use one when there's no fish biting, a good birds nest will keep you busy for at least an hour.

Stop trying to fix something that’s not broken. If you like spinning gear use spinning gear. I’m find my self trying different things like fly fishing or bow hunting and at the end of the day the original method is always better because you’re used to it.

I cant for the life of me cast them, only use mine for bottom bouncing easier to do and one handed when driving boat. Mine has a flipping or trolling switch which is nice.

I think it depends on where you fish and what you use.

It is not that difficult as i learned it in grade school.

If you fish heavy cover and big lures, there is no substitude for casting gear. They do not make frog rods, flipping stick, cracking rods etc for spinning gear. Normal weekends fishing in kawartha, i bring 6-7 casting rod and maybe 1 spinning rod if at all.

Just got home from a week up north and while i got a few fish on each of my casting rods, the last 2 days i just brought my 2 spinning outfits as i waz just fishing jig heads and og raps and shad raps which are too light for my rods. So if those are the type of stuff you use then there is no need for casting rods. If you like burning bucktails deep cranking dd22, punching 1 oz tungstens, there are no spinning rods that are made for the job.

I have never had a use for a bit caster just to much work. A few friends of mine use them. The only advantage I have seen is they seem to cast farther other then that I don't really see an advantage with them. I have been using and open face reel since I was about 40 years.
