Saturdays storm

Well what a mess I'm glad I left but got chased for 35 minutes.

So it began with a tornado warning and the storm picking up over the lake. The rubles of thunder sounded like a freeway of dump trucks of continous rumblings. The plan Friday was to chase down a tornado if the storms were close..

Left our house peeled over to the beach for a moment the clouds heading over Holmes point were building we started heading to Beaverton and were quickly diverted by falling hail. As the storm came over the lake it picked up to the left of us and what a beast. It chased us all the way to Port perry from Port bolster about 4 or 5 times just hitting the edge of the hail.

Just past seagrave north of Port perry we saw the a funnel cloud come down between 2 and 12 it was on the ground and it was close only last about 30 or 40 seconds. As fast as it came down it lifted back up. Turned up reach st to head over to the clearing just as we past the Tim Hortons on reach st the trees bent over and it sounded like a freight train and a loud hum in the car. Then my ear popped with the open window the guy ahead of me pulled over and I punch it out of there. There is a speed camera in that area probably getting a ticket mailed as I sped off. We ended up getting out of it at that moment then followed it almost to bowmenville.


Glad I left everything got destroyed in town from golf ball to baseball size hail. Every car in town has dents smashed windows saw at least a dozen cars with tarps on covering them. Siding on houses are damaged our trailers damaged 50 to 100 dents on the front 5 holes though the sunroof and vent.
The front corner trim has holes. One of our basement windows smashed a glass table 3 of the 4 car tents are littered with holes.

The garden got decimated picked off 20 tomatoes with holes the hail just destroyed everything peppers cucumbers entire tops and branches gone it just crushed through everything. Saw a corn field the was ruffled up pretty good.

Got into a few hairy moments and have some great photos of the storm just glad our car was out of town when the hail hit.

The radar sucks now they made it worse. Environment Canada used to be great could tell you exactly where and who was going to get hit .

Been using it for as long as I can remember it was updated every 10 minutes witha 3 minute delay so you could get a new picture every 13 minutes and showed the last hour.

Now this year the updated version minimum time is 2 hours of play with updated information coming in every 20 minutes with a delay. Almost 30 minutes without an update. The first round of tornadoes this year I tried getting on it and that's when I noticed the update. It made me feel dumb I was lost without a more recent update.

Why did they make it longer to update? The weather changes so fast I never used the ones that showed you the future they are inconsistent. It changes by the minutes.

I felt like an idiot when it changed. Thought things were to get better not worse as the new tech comes along. Anyway I figured it out you just play back the last few images you can't play the 2 hr or it will confuse you as it's to much time shown. As for the longer wait time on the update that's just silly especially when they just put a tornado warning throughout the mobile coverage area .

Any one use a good radar system that shows only the past hr with quicker updates.?

I was also driving when it blew through, managed to get around the worst of it and only a couple small dents in the truck, got home to see the vehicles and trailers as well as the flashing and gutters just destroyed.

Have to agree, the Gov't run weather and radar is a complete joke at the best of times. Seems like every time a bit of a storm shows up, the radar either freezes or becomes "unavailable" and get the message, check back later. I sent them a couple of emails, all I ever get back is clear the cache on your browser. Idiots.

I thought most if not all Doppler Radar sites are government owned (Environment Canada ?) and all those weather network sites get their base info from them ? Then they run that plus satellite plus whatever other info through a super computer to produce there weather map ? I use the Exeter Radar Site to see what's happening where I am and it seems ok.

A friend who lives west of Beaverton saw the storm coming about 5 minutes before it hit. He had the presence of mind to toss his lawn chair pads on top of the cab and hood of his new truck and bungied a boat tarp over them to keep them from blowing off. His truck was the only one around that wasn't in a shed or garage that remained unscathed.

Yes I think 2 of the 3 major storms and tornado warnings it froze up. I was really frustrated I'm pretty sure the first time as the storm was coming and was not able the see where it was headed.

Lucky it was just a few dents heard of a couple cars while driving and blown out windows.
Lots of dents and damage.

(Edit someone sent me an old link no confirmed tornado across lakeridge. It was the one that hit our back yard years ago lol. I saw that one too it was intense. Just a white water wash with greenery flying sideways haha.

That's a smart idea good thinking on his end saved him a whole lot of stress looking at all the dents on his new truck. Saw a few nice vehicles with tarps over them .

I'm glad I decided to chase it then got trapped when it pick up off Holmes point. Then it chased us lol.

I got the phone call from the wife telling me how bad it was, I was at 7+12 so hammered West. Lots of people were pulling off and probably got the worst of it that was pretty much the center of the storm front headed south east.

Wilfrid had sunny skies by the time I passed thru.
