Goose ammo
Goose starts one month from today, getting pumped, just got the fed stamp, have to get some 3” BB’s now. Was thinking to get a case or 2 at Cabelas. In past i tried BBB’s, T’s etc….but always seem to use BB’s more. What is your preferred load for geese?
thanks
Rob

my go to is 3.5 BB but with these prices im beside myself! would like to find affordable options but it looks like 3 inch BBs are going to be my way to go price wise

Hunterbob goose starts in 14 days. As for affordable 3" bb steel should be more than enough it'll still cost and ammo still is hard too find.

I use 3" number 3's for geese and ducks at least to start with in the earlier season. If I was to go out late season for geese I would step it up to BB's I guess. I have had to issues with the number 3's, but I field hunt and let them come in close and my dog doesn't mind chasing down the few that want to run. Guess trick is to make your shots count, no body shots at the back.
Oh on a side note, who's pumped for that opener in 2 weeks, I know I am.

I always have BB or #1 on hand in 3 inch.

Early season in coffin blind - 3 inch #3 using IC choke. Over water I use MOD choke and three inch 2’s. I’ll also carry a box of BB but I rarely use it.

Hello Hunter Bob,
I have taken Canada Geese using 12 gauge 3" shells and #3 steel shot with an IC choke at close range (under 30 yards) while hunting ducks but would prefer using 12 gauge 3" shells and #1 steel shot with an IC choke at close range for geese.
I generally have 12 gauge 3" shells and BB steel shot with a Modified choke tube on hand for geese further out to 40 yards ... my limit. I like the #1 steel shot as an all purpose choice for geese and large ducks ... especially for divers.

My best kill ratios on geese are with #1 shot size. Shell length does not matter to me, as long as I am conscious of the muzzle velocity to determine my lead.

Interesting to see a couple guys using #1. The first box of steel ammo I was given was #1 and I think the majority of both ducks and geese I've taken were with that size of shot. Large enough that I often find just 1 pellet made the kill.

3 inch BB's 12 ga. Mod choke is my go to, cause if you hit him he's going to know it but I have stoned them with a load of #3's 3 inch but they were right on top of me.
