Tackle donation
Good morning,
Does anyone know of an organization or group hopefully in Southern Ontario that takes in old tackle for distribution to kids who cannot afford to get into fishing. I have accumulated rods, reels, tackle and boxes over the years that I no longer am able to use. I hate to see it sit in storage when use could be made of it now and I do not want to profit from it. I am limited to local shore fishing now and would like to keep just enough to do that. If I wait too long someone, sometime will likely just toss it out. Thanks.

Very honorable intentions. Good for you.
Doesn't the OFAH have a tackle share program?
A couple of months ago I went to a local fishing hole in Pembroke and gave a couple of kids some tackle there. They were very happy.
Maybe you should find some local areas near you and just give it away.

Thanks Muskyhunter
Yes they do, Meaghan the admin gave me a contact there to email but I have not had an answer and their website does not address donations. I go to the local areas but any kids there are with their fathers and are all ready to go with tackle. It's not like the good old days with lots of kids trying to fish with nothing,
Anybody else?

How about contacting the local Hamilton fishing clubs to see if they are interested:
Hamilton Bassmasters or Hamilton Hunters and Anglers

Maybe Big Brothers/Sisters could find you some potential candidates as well.

If you're local to Hamilton, I would suggest reaching out to the Golden Horseshoe Outdoors Club that meets at the Loyal Order of the Moose on Barton St E.
They organize a fishing day for the Hamilton Big Brothers & Sisters each May taking the kids out on Lake Ontario, I am sure there would be some kids that would love to have their own equipment. They also usually have a shore fishing derby at Fifty Point Conservation in the Fall.
To my knowledge, the other Outdoors clubs in Hamilton do not do any events for local youth in the community.

One to try for sure. Also covers off Muskys second suggestion. I really like it because I have always loved the name "Loyal Order of the Moose" It has always made me smile.
Keep them coming and I will start trying to make contact when the poor weather arrives. Will report back on any success in case other are in the same boat.

Hi,
You might want to contact local Scouting groups.
Cheers,
