I do both for bears. On the ground i always build a hide out of native vegetation. Works great. This guy got to within 6 feet of me and never busted me. Later that afternoon a second bear also got to within 6 feet of me but busted me and wouldn't back off so he ended up tagged. This pic was this spring at 12 feet from my position brushed in at the base of a Tamarack tree:

Hey Frank, good to hear from you. It was a huge rush. Even after 40+ years of chasing various critters bears at that range still give me the shakes. Deer are enjoyable but just not the same. Hope you have a good fall season and looking forward to reading some posts by the king of the "Walk and Stalk."Quote:

I'm not a big bear hunter,per se,but,you haven't lived until you've had a big boar sneak up behind you in pouring rain while sitting on a Moose watch,steal your pack with your lunch in it while not making a sound (and I wasn't even dozing off........well,at least not that time). I didn't even realize it until I heard my steel Thermos clatter falling out of the pack from 100' away. That's all I got back covered with spit and snot.
